Chelter-Marmara Monastery. View from Chelter Kaya

The symbol of the monastery is a huge column hall the stone dome of which is supported by 5 big columns. In the eastern part of the grotto there is a church in which the basis of the thrown with a hollow for sacred remains is well seen. Many Christian churches appeared exactly in the places which in the pagan religion were worshiped as sacred. One of such constructions can be considered the cave monastery Chelter-Marmara that appeared simultaneously with Shuldan (VIII c.) but it’s much bigger in size.
